Don’t miss this truly magical experience offering a traditional, historical and fairytale-like atmosphere. The Unterground Christmas experience is freely accessible and without and entrance fee! San Candido is offering a unique Underground Christmas Market located in the Dolomythos Museum. During this time the Museum offers free entrances, which allows every visitor to enjoy and experience a complete new world of attractions. Visitors are engaging in the history of our world heritage area named ‘Dolomites’ while also experiencing the cosiness and warmth only found in the mountains. Your journey will experience a complete and worth seeing harmony cooperated with the countless huts offering Christmas gifts, luxuries, local handicraft and culinary.

We set off into Valle di Braies Vecchia by minibus from San Candido and using the snow-covered road towards Prato Piazza we reach the 2000 meters high alpine plateau. From there it’s a short walk to Rifugio Prato Piazza (base camp). There, we put on our snowshoes. Past Swiss pine woods we gently cross the high plateau and climb Monte Specie (2,307 m). A stunning circular view and intense winter fun for relatively small climbing effort. Refreshment stop possible at the end of the hike. Starting point: 08:30 am Tourist Information San Candido Return: approx. 3:00 pm Walking time: ascent approx. 2.5 hrs / descent approx. 1.5 hrs Difficulty: intermediate Altitude differential: approx. 350 m Kit: technical, ankle-covering mountain boots with profiled soles (winter boots or low shoes are not suitable for deep snow), hot drink (thermos flask), thermal protection, gloves and spare hat, sun protection Note: Anyone suffering from heart disease and/or taking medication is not permitted to participate in this tour (rapid difference in altitude)! Taxi obligatory for everyone: 20.00 Euro for the round trip not included / for organisational reasons it is not possible to drive up in your own car (in case of cancellation after 18.00 pm of the previous day the taxi must still be paid) Fee: 30 € per person, 5 € snow shoe rental, taxi return journey: € 20,00 a person IMPORTANT: The hikes will take place in all events, even where there is a lack of snow. In the event of a grave risk of avalanche or other adverse conditions, programme changes may occur. There is no minimum number of participants. The minimum age for children is 10 years with a shoe size of at least 35 (there are no snowshoes for smaller sizes). Dogs are not permitted at ANY tour.

From the hiking parking lot above Mudler, you reach the Mount Lutterkopf (2145 m) after about 2 hours of easy ascent. The view is magnificent, from the Sesto Dolomites in the south to the Ortler and the Rieserferner Group in the north. Continue in open terrain and descend through the Taistner Alm hut to the starting point. Ambitious hikers have the option of adding the Durakopf at 2275 m. The additional time required is around one hour. Refreshment stop. As an alternative in case of insufficient snow, the tour is offered as a winter hike. Difficulty: medium. Time: 09:00 am.-03:00 pm. The night slope "Circuito Waldheim" is an opportunity for all cross-country skiers who would like to do another lap after 5 pm. The cross-country ski run is ideal for beginners as well as for advanced skiers.

70th anniversary of the first ascent of K2 in 1954 On Friday, 13 December, the exhibition about Erich Abram will be opened. Abram, an experienced mountaineer and helicopter pilot, is known to have been involved in the first ascent of K2, but not only. His mountaineering career includes several first ascents in the Dolomites. He is also known for his skills as a pilot: He carried out numerous rescue missions and was also involved in training rescuers and mountain guides.

Into the silence - a silent snowshoe hike From San Candido we take the minibus or private cars via Santa Maria to Monte Rota. At the Christmas workshop we make nativity scenes, Christmas trees and birdhouses. The participation is free of charge, no registration needed.

Children's face painting: bright colours and lots of glitter promise great fantasy faces Some rooms of the Garni Café Sport are the backdrop for the forKIDS programme. Afternoon meetings with creative craft workshop, a Christmas bakery, picture theater, face painting and great games take place here to make the Advent and Christmas season the most exciting time for your children. While your children play in the warmth, you can take your time to visit the Christmas market and the numerous shops in Dobbiaco. Participation is free of charge and booking is not required.
