More than 150 years ago the first climb

Unique pioneers

More than 150 years ago, in the summer of 1869, the Viennese pioneer of mountaineering Paul Grohmann succeeded in the first climb to Cima Tre Scarperi, a month later it conquered the Cima Grande. Grohmann with Peter Salcher, entrusted to Franz Innerkofler of Sesto. These took command of the expedition, accompanied by the young Innerkofler. The four reached the "Steinalmscharte" along the Val Fiscalina e the "Schusterflecke". To complete their challenge, they crossed debris and climbed a wall. The difficult part in the first climb was represented by a steep ledge, but finally they reached the highest point of Cima Tre Scarperi. From there, at the sight of the vast north side of the Three Peaks, Grohmann decided with his friends to climb the highest of the pinnacles. With this purpose they started from the Malga Rin Bianco and, after half an hour, they found themselves at the starting point. Just over two hours after they had already reached the top. Two were the possible ascent points to reach the top: a difficult obstacle to overcome and an opening through which they had to jump. That day their pioneering boldness was admired by numerous hikers who had gathered on the pastures to observe them. Only after a few years Cima Grande was able to welcome others visitors.
